The Aldeias do Xisto are fantastic locations for the practice of cycling in its various forms and they have therefore invested in creating more facilities and better conditions for it, and also for the particular accommodation of cyclists.
The Aldeias do Xisto were pioneers in introducing the Bikotel concept in Portugal, improving their lodgings to welcome cyclists and offer specialised services and facilities that will ensure a stay which is both comfortable and suitable for the specific needs of cycling.
At a Bikotel, cyclists have the following services at their disposal:
- An enclosed, covered storage area for secure bicycle storage
- Washing facilities for bicycles
- Menus adapted for cyclists (with dishes rich in carbohydrates and extra vegetables and fruit at every meal)
- Daily washing and drying of cyclists’ clothes
- Mini-workshop with basic tools and tyre pumps
- Outdoors bicycle parking area
- Mountain bike and/or cycle touring routes (maps, technical data and GPS tracks)
Accommodation can optionally feature:
- Hire of bicycles and GPS equipment
- GPS equipment rental
- Specialist guides to accompany or advise on the routes
- Helpline in case of need/emergency
- Repair shops for more complex breakdowns
- Special massages for cyclists
- Weather forecasts
- Transfers to/from the Bikotel
- Medical treatment
