Marc Ribot's concert, an unmistakable name in international jazz, marks the return of XJazz - Jazz Sessions in the Aldeias do Xisto 2022. After Salvador Sobral & André Santos’ amazing performance in the Aldeia do Xisto (Schist Village) of Sarzedas, the guitarist will be performing in Aldeia das Dez, Oliveira do Hospital, on the 2nd of July. Vértice Trio, Pedro & Mel and Amélia Muge are the other artists joining this year's line-up. Admission is free to all shows.
Talent once again manifests itself in unique and often unusual settings, before audiences that promise to be generous with their applause and hospitality. As usual, the XJazz programme is meticulous and perfectly materialises what, since 2012, has been the purpose of this music cycle: to take artists to immerse themselves in the reality of the villages, in communion with local communities, crossing cultural identity, landscapes and the art of music itself.
“The opening up of this territory to creativity and artistic expression is further reinforced by XJazz, strengthening Aldeias do Xisto’s assets and values as a brand that welcomes experimentation, innovation and the connection between humans, places, art and nature”, underlines Bruno Ramos, coordinator of ADXTUR - Schist Villages Tourism Development Agency.

XJazz - music immersed in the villages
In keeping with its inception in 2012, the 2022 arts programme is rooted in the genuine identity and culture of the villages, benefiting from its social and environmental surroundings to provide unique moments of creation, discovery and sharing.
In this initiative, promoted in partnership with the JACC - Jazz at the Centre Club, the Aldeias do Xisto have already hosted 51 concerts and 7 artistic residencies, in the scope of which 4 albums were produced: "Guitolão" by Carlos Barretto and António Eustáquio, "Xisto" by the quintet with Marcelo dos Reis, Angélica Salvi, Nuno Torres, Miguel Carvalhais and João Pais Filipe (both recorded in the Aldeia do Xisto of Cerdeira, Lousã), the self-titled album by Slow is Possible (recorded in Fajão, Pampilhosa da Serra) and "Fonte Grande", by María Villanueva, Vânia Couto, Yoshida Carvalho, Lucas de Centi and Sandra Pérez, recorded in Fundão, in the context of the residency held in the Aldeia do Xisto of Barroca, in 2019.
