Miranda do Corvo will host, from 6 to 9 June 2019, the World Trail Running Championship, one of the most iconic events of the sport.
The event is part of the 9th edition of Trilhos dos Abutres, known for the toughness of its tracks and the breathtaking landscapes of Serra da Lousã mountain range, and brings teams from 55 countries, mobilising more than 400 athletes to Portugal.
The Abutres 2019 Trail World Championship features the world's top athletes in the sport, who will have to overcome 42 kilometres, with an uphill inclination of around 2,200 metres.
The race which crowns the title of champion and world champion in the men's, women's and team categories is scheduled for 8 June.
With a semi-autonomous nature, the race course starts in the town of Miranda do Corvo, passes through the Biological Park and the Aldeia do Xisto of Gondramaz, continuing through the epic trails of Serra da Lousã.

1,600 participants and 20,000 visitors
The two events are expected to attract around 1,600 participants. There are expected to be about 20 thousand spectators, boosting tourism and services and products in the region.
Note that in May, the president of Miranda do Corvo Municipal Council, Miguel Baptista, and the president of the Associação Abútrica, Tiago Araújo, travelled to Penyagolosa, Castellón de la Plana (Valencia, Spain) to attend the 2018 event and receive the flag of the event for the following year.
"This is a major challenge for the municipality", said Mr Baptista, at the time, highlighting "the clear commitment of the municipality to making Miranda do Corvo a benchmark area for trail running”.
Tiago Araújo emphasized the "enormous pride" in representing the organisation and in hosting the race.
The World Trail Running Championship is being organised by the Portuguese Athletics Federation and the Associação Abútrica, in partnership with the Miranda do Corvo Municipal Council.
