Planta do Xisto, located in the Aldeia do Xisto of Cerdeira in the municipality of Lousã, organises a Workshop on the Distillation of Essential Oils, on the 1st of April, which includes an introduction to the extraction of essential oils in a copper still.
Programme
- Presentation
- Tour of the plantation and harvesting herbs for distillation (rosemary). Brief explanation about the use of aromatic and medicinal plants, methods of extraction of active agents and good harvesting and conservation practices
- Essential oils: general information, extraction methods, properties, toxicity, main uses
- Assembling the distillation system and explaining the process
- Lunch break in nature
- Start of distillation. Discussion on yields and plants within national territory with the potential for essential oil extraction
- Tasting of Planta do Xisto infusions and preserves
- Decanting the essential oil
Each participant will take some of the floral water home.

- Cost: €65/person (includes hydrolat, vegetarian lunch and tasting of infusions and sweets);
