On the Green Woodworking Course learn how to make a wooden chair by hand freely and following your own design. We will use freshly cut round wood to create the seat, legs and backrest for your creative and unique chair.
Over these six days you will learn all the basic woodworking techniques, including carving the wood by hand, working the various pieces to a beautiful, delicate finish and then putting them together. We also teach you how to build your own bench, a knowledge that will allow you to continue practising your new craft when you return home.
"Free form" refers to a style of work that uses irregular and curved pieces of wood. On this course you will learn how to drill and make a perfect join of these elements. It is a course for people who want to make something unique and personal, something that is an expression of their personality.
Peter Lanyon presents himself as a designer and maker of wooden furniture, a teacher for green woodworking and a community project coordinator, but he is so much more.
He combines many years of experience of working as a designer and woodworker, both from a workshop based apprenticeship and at an academic level in the field of design and technologies, with countless jobs in public spaces and exhibitions with a great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and teaching, and that is what makes this artist week so unique.
