Salvador Sobral opens another edition of XJazz - Jazz Sessions in the Aldeias do Xisto. The concert is scheduled for the 10th of June, at 9.30pm, in the square of the Main Church in the Aldeia do Xisto of Sarzedas, Castelo Branco municipality. Admission is free to all shows, no prior registration is required.
In this first show, Salvador Sobral, accompanied by André Santos on guitar, presents his most recent studio album live. Released worldwide in May 2021, "bpm" marks the first time that the musician ventures into publishing an album composed entirely of originals, in partnership with producer Leo Aldrey.
"I make various decisions in different aspects of life during my insomnia. I call them PI (productive insomnia). The name of the album came from a PI. While reflecting on music and life, I came to the conclusion that the strongest element that unites them are bpm (beats per minute). They are what gives us life, heartbeats, they give music its pulse, make it alive. I will always remember, when I was in hospital, I had several electrocardiograms and, during a more delicate phase, there was a monitor that always showed my bpms. And that, oddly enough, conveyed a sense of familiarity to me. The bpms were something I was familiar with from music.
So I decided right then and there that the record would be called bpm. And I slept peacefully. At least that night”, says the musician.
"sangue de meu sangue", "paint the town" and "aplauso dentro" (with Margarida Campelo) were the first pieces developed from a set of 14 unpublished songs that received critical and public acclaim. The album was nominated for Best Engineered Album at the last edition of the Latin Grammy Awards, along with artists such as C. Tangana.
