Wood is a material that fascinates us with its texture, aroma and direct connection to nature — something that is felt in a very special way in the Schist Village of Cerdeira, where this workshop takes place. Working with wood is, for many, a long-held desire, and this programme has been designed precisely for those who want to take the first step and turn that desire into a real experience.

Over two days in Cerdeira, participants will be accompanied by Kerstin Thomas and Renato Costa e Silva, starting with practical exercises exploring essential tools and techniques. On the second day, they will apply this knowledge to create a bas-relief in chestnut wood, developing coordination, a sense of form and a relationship with the material, in a creative and inspiring environment.

Carving wood is always a dialogue between the hand and the raw material: it requires attention, sensitivity, technique and respect. This workshop offers precisely that experience — learning, experimenting and creating in a unique setting, in the heart of the mountains, in the Schist Village of Cerdeira.

At the end, each participant will take home the piece they have created, the result of the encounter between personal creativity, acquired knowledge and the uniqueness of the wood they have worked with.
