On 20 and 21 September 2025, Castanheira de Pera invites you to enjoy an unforgettable experience in direct contact with nature: the Deer Rut, part of the Twelve Months, Twelve Walks programme.
At dawn and dusk, participants will have the rare opportunity to witness the deer rut, the mating ritual that marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. The intense and characteristic sound of the males echoes through the mountains, creating a vibrant setting that awakens all the senses.
The activity, organised by Prazilândia, Turismo e Ambiente EM, aims to raise awareness of the importance of environmental preservation and respect for local ecosystems. As this is an observation in a natural habitat, participants are advised to avoid perfumes and brightly coloured clothing so as not to disturb the animals.
The programme takes place at two different times, allowing you to choose the most suitable experience:
- Watching the Rut at Sunset – 20th September
- Watching the Rut at Dawn – 21 September
