Carmen Souza became the only Cape Verdean woman in the musical history of her country to compose, co-produce and perform in voice, piano and guitar a totally original repertoire combining the Creole dialect, traditional rhythms and jazz. Awarded in 2017 with the Silver Medal of Cultural Merit from the Government of Cape Verde, she is a musical pioneer who has won 2 Cape Verde Music Awards, Best Female Artist and Best Morna song, and has been nominated for several other International Awards.
