JOSÉ VALENTE

He studied viola at the Kaertner Landes Konservatorium in Austria and jazz at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York. He is currently doing a PhD in Contemporary Art at the Colégio das Artes, Universidade de Coimbra.

He worked with the likes of Paquito d’Rivera, Dave Douglas, Don Byron, Hank Roberts, Jason Kao Hwang and Daniel Levin. Honourable Mention in the "Lopes-Graça Composition Prize 2009" and winner of the artistic projects competition "Serralves em Festa! 2010”. Founding member of the string quartet ACIES Streich Quartett, of the project "INCOMPLETO" with actor Cláudio da Silva and double bass player Sérgio Tavares, and creator of the EXPERIENCES OF TODAY collective with Associação Arte à Parte, with which he played in several national festivals and recorded an album.

He was awarded the “HANNAH S. AND SAMUEL A. COHN MEMORIAL
FOUNDATION ENDOWED FELLOWSHIP” in 2012.
