As part of the European Heritage Days 2018, the Aldeias do Xisto and Museu de Arte Popular are organising "A Revolta dos Legumes" ceramics workshop on 28, 29 and 30 September.
Aimed at adults and families, this is an open initiative in which potters from the Agricultura Lusitana project (currently on display at the Museum) share their expertise and show the public the various stages of the ceramic process, demonstrating how to make ceramic pieces from moulds made out of vegetable from the Aldeias do Xisto.
"A Revolta dos Legumes" will thus allow the public to interact with one of Portugal’s most important and traditional arts, but also, as Rui Simão, coordinator of ADXTUR - Schist Village Network Tourism Development Agency, underlines, "highlight the importance of welcoming and stimulating in the territories the creativity, innovation and reinvention of culture that allow cultural heritage to stay alive. This is the main message that the Aldeias do Xisto and Museu de Arte Popular want to convey with this initiative and "Agricultura Lusitana’s” exhibition.
Paulo Costa, director of Museu de Arte Popular, highlights "the importance of drawing attention to the role of heritage in social and economic development. This workshop, part of the Museum's broad programme of initiatives, will certainly contribute to the objectives of protection, enhancement and promotion of European cultural heritage outlined this year by the European Commission".
