On 13 September, the Schist Village of Fajão will come alive to mark the 28th anniversary of the Monsenhor Nunes Pereira Museum, with a whole day dedicated to culture, history and tradition.
The programme kicks off at 10 a.m. with the traditional Feira Franca de Fajão (Fajão Fair) in the churchyard, where you can find regional products, handicrafts, antiques, bric-a-brac and second-hand items, in a lively display of local trade and know-how.
Between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the Monsenhor Nunes Pereira Museum and Gallery will be open for free guided tours. Of particular note are the new religious pieces from the ethnographic and artistic collection. In the Gallery, a painting by the artist Guilherme Filipe will be presented to the public, as well as unpublished documents that bear witness to the artist's intense cultural activity.
At the end of the afternoon, at 5:45 p.m, the churchyard will host a Musical Soirée in honour of the Fajaense Mandolin Group, an entity that played a vital role in the cultural revitalisation of the village.
The cultural journey culminates at 9 p.m with an open-air documentary film screening, featuring a film about the life and work of Monsignor Nunes Pereira.
Come and celebrate the preservation and appreciation of the tangible and intangible heritage of the parish of Fajão. Plan your stay and book at bookinxisto.com.
